BEOWULF
Do you want to hear a story?
With a dream team of Bay Area artists, we’re developing a music-fuelled spoken word performance of the Anglo Saxon action-epic BEOWULF. Our text is from Maria Dahvana Headley’s breathtaking 2020 translation, and our creative process is well underway. In October of 2025 we mounted a workshop performance of the “third act” of the story: Beowulf and the Dragon. It went so well, you guys! We got some great feedback and learned a lot. Now we’re working behind the scenes to develop the rest of the story: I’m learning my lines which takes a minute, and we’re scheming ways to make this beautiful and vibrant piece come to life.
Bro! Tell me we still know how to speak of kings! In the old days,
everyone knew what men were: brave, bold, glory-bound. Only
stories now, but I’ll sound the Spear-Danes’ song, hoarded for hungry times.
Here is the team of badass women who are making this dream a reality!
